Description of a Painting

Aim of practice: can serve as introductory sketching of images surrounding future piece
Number of participans: 3+
Time: 30 mins

One participant jots down an imaginary description of a non-existent painting (alternatively uses an existing painting) – like Heiner Müller in his description of a painting), records it subsequently. Others take turns at the drawing paper and headphones (where the description is to be heard) and draw the picture as they listen, while approaching the paper as though before them there lies a masterpiece responding to the description they hear. Every intrusion into the painting is only a fine touch-up, emphasis of one element from the description. Useful for a reflective analysis can be that individual participants use varying colours.
